How Can I Get Comfortable to Sleep at Night?

I feel like I spend a great deal of time repositioning myself each night. I have a lot of trouble getting comfortable at night, and it seems even harder to stay comfortable for any length of time. Much of my night is spent tossing and turning, attempting to get comfortable and find a good position with insomnia.

Why it is impossible finding a comfortable position:

Pillow fights in the middle of the night

I have a number of pillows to help me try and get comfortable. No matter how I place them, I end up needing to move 1 or the other in a short period of time. A great deal of time is spent moving pillows around when I roll over in the middle of the night.

I have tried sleeping with fewer pillows to cut down on the time spent moving them around, but I am unable to get comfortable without a regular pillow and a body pillow. I prefer 2 regular pillows, but I can manage with just 1 if I must.

Getting my hair out of my face

Aside from repositioning pillows whenever I move, I must also reposition my hair. Yes, I said my hair. I have this odd thing about it touching my face. It itches, and it will keep me awake. Every time I move, I must pull my hair back away from my face.

It has been suggested that I tie my hair up before going to bed but tying my hair for any length of time gives me a headache. I am stuck pulling it back away from my face every time I move the slightest bit, and that extra little bit of time it takes wakes me up just a little bit more.

Waking up in the middle of the night

Every second I spend doing something to get comfortable again wakes me up a bit more. The more awake I am, the longer it takes for me to get back to sleep. Unfortunately, it takes time to get situated again when I roll over during the night.

It is hard enough to get back to sleep when I wake up in the middle of the night, but it makes it harder when I am wide awake every time I roll over. I am now rolling over multiple times an hour!

Night sweats, hot flashes, and wide awake at night

Add in the fact that I now have serious night sweats and hot flashes, and I feel like I do not sleep more than 15 minutes at a time before waking. Every time I must throw the blankets off me, I wake up and stay up for a little while. After it passes, I have to situate my blanket, pillows,... and hair!

I do keep my bedroom quite cool at night, but if you have ever had night sweats and hot flashes you understand that it does not matter how cool the room is. This is an issue that only time will fix, I’m afraid. Unfortunately, it’s taking too much time for my liking.

Trying to find a comfortable position with insomnia

How can I get comfortable sleeping at night? It seems impossible to stay comfortable for too long, and it is difficult to get comfortable again after rolling over during the night. I feel like I would get a good bit more rest if I was able to get comfortable and stay comfortable longer.

Do you struggle finding a comfortable position with insomnia? I would love to hear about your experience and your suggestions.
