Insomnia and Natural Remedies
If you are here reading this, there is a strong possibility that you struggle with insomnia. Maybe it is not you, perhaps you know someone who does, or you are just curious. The word "insomnia," when brought up in conversation, can really bring a variety of responses.
Sometimes, if you are lucky, it may even bring up some interesting ideas or remedies that have not crossed your path before. Not everyone you meet will be open to receiving them, and it is important to remember that we never know what other people are going through, so treat everyone you meet with kindness.
Sleep deprivation led me to my 2 favorite natural sleep aids
In my opinion, sleep deprivation in any form is one of the more underrated things in life. I think sleep deprivation has a profound impact on our bodies and, importantly, on our minds too. So when someone has been through a rough insomnia run, you may find that they are worn out and pretty desperate to get some sleep – no doubt leaving them a little grumpy and less than congenial.
Some days I think I have been tired for so long that tired and grumpy are now my main personality traits. I digress. Understandably, when we are this desperate, we will try just about anything to get some zzzs. This has led me to 2 of my favorite natural sleep aids.
Do they work every time? No. Do they work most of the time? I reckon they work more often than not. Therefore, they are my go-to to use and share with others.
Natural remedy: magnesium
Fiding magnesium has been something that I never expected to bring so much joy to my life. Magnesium is such a versatile and incredible nutrient. It is like the allrounder to making everything in my body and mind work better. It plays a crucial role in making sure that my organs stay healthy and makes sure that they can do what they need to do to keep my body in tip-top condition. There are many foods where magnesium occurs naturally.
Me, though, I choose to buy it in an effervescent and take it before bed at night. Best of all, it really does help my sleep, The quality of sleep I have while taking magnesium is just better. When I do wake up at night, it is much easier to drift back off. Again, it is no cure, and it does not always work as well as how I want it to. Importantly for me, it helps more often than not.
Another natural remedy: Melissa (lemon balm leaf)
Chamomile tea has never really been my tea of choice. In fact, I am not a fan at all. It has never been particularly effective for me. So when I was introduced to yet another "sleepy tea," I was reluctant, to say the least. I was, however, in the throes of a particularly bad insomnia run, and therefore desperate times led to desperate measures.
So we loaded up a box and brewed a cup before bed. Much to my surprise, I actually had a really good night's sleep. It is now a staple in my home, and I easily gift friends a box along with some other sleepy aids.
