My Top 3 Self-Care Tips for Insomnia

The more tired I am, the less effort I put into everything. The level of exhaustion that I am currently experiencing is something for the books. As a result of this, there is very little care going into anything, let alone myself which makes self-care tips for insomnia essential.

There is a sliding scale it would seem in my life. While the exhaustion and tiredness pile up, the level of care I receive from myself goes down. This is so counterproductive and I know it, yet there seems to be so little I can do about it.

My top 3 self-care tips

Here are my top 3 self-care tips for making sure you are taking care of yourself while you are managing and coping with insomnia. They might be small, but they add up and then they are mighty. Let's direct some of the love back toward ourselves.

Keep that home clean

Clutter creates chaos, and the last thing we need in our lives is more chaos. It can leave us feeling overwhelmed and send us into a spiral. If you are unable to get to it yourself be sure to enlist the help of your loved ones, friends, family, or a professional cleaner or cleaning service.

Focus on picking up your room and maintaining a calm and neutral space. Make the bed, changes the linen, allow fresh air in and make sure it feels calm.

Some of us have families with small children; so, chaos is all we know. When there is chaos, I focus on making sure my room is off bounds and I keep that clear and calm.

Spa day: at home or away

If you are able to afford to go away for a spa day, do it. Book it and go and allow yourself to unwind, and be pampered. Not everyone has the means, and/or the time to make this happen.

Therefore I make a spa day happen at home. I buy face masks, bubble baths, and candles. I load a good relaxing music playlist and take some time to myself. Sometimes, I paint my nails and just take some time to look after my body, skin, and hair. While this does not take the exhaustion away, it can be helpful to step away from the norm and take a moment to relax. Give yourself the treatment that you deserve despite how tired you are.

Good food

This is so important and something I quickly fall off the wagon with. When I am suffering from a serious bout of insomnia, one of the first things that I go to is good food. Healthy eating should be a priority that always stays. Eating badly and junk food is sometimes the quickest and easiest thing to do. We don't have the energy to cook etc., so we grab convenient choices over healthy selections.

We need to make better choices and try our best to eat good nutritious food. This would support our bodies and our minds so much more than what we give them credit for. Try filling up with fresh and healthy veggies. Do not overdo the caffeine, sugar, and refined foods.

Prioritize self-care for insomnia

While all these things are by no means going to make your insomnia go away, this is going to support your love and care of yourself. It is vital to find ways to look after yourself and find small moments and things to carry you through, relax, and recoup.

I would love to hear about your self-care tips for insomnia! What are the things you will be doing to show yourself some love and care to help you, your mind, and your body cope with insomnia?
