A Shifting Sleep Schedule Might Steal My Mornings

I have started waking up earlier and earlier in the morning. While I am happy to have extra hours in the day to get things done, I have concerns. Waking earlier is shaving time off the amount of sleep I get. How long will it take before I am back to getting barely enough sleep to function? My changing sleep schedule with insomnia is causing concern.

Waking up earlier causing concern

I really don’t mind waking up just before 7 AM. Many would consider that sleeping late as they must get up long before that to go to work. My concern is that I was sleeping until 9 AM. That shrunk to 8:30, then 8 AM, and now around 7 AM. I have lost 2 hours of sleep.

I am still getting more sleep than I used to, but I am finding it harder to get out of bed in the morning since I am losing sleep again. Perhaps I will continue to lose sleep in the mornings and it will once again affect how I function. That is my concern.

A history of changing sleep schedules

Any time I have ever reached a point when I got enough sleep to function properly, it eventually changes. Readjusting to getting so little sleep always causes me to crash and burn. It’s a tough adjustment. I dread it.

Unfortunately, I see that adjustment coming. It’s just beyond the horizon. Like a ship sailing into port, I can see it way off in the distance as it slowly moves across the sea headed toward the shore.

Hoping to keep my new sleep schedule

In addition to dealing with getting less sleep, I am deeply concerned about how the hours I sleep will shift. I have often complained I had lost too much time by sleeping through most of the day. This new schedule has given me back my daytime and lets me live a bit fuller life.

Will I go back to being awake all night and staying in the bed all day in an attempt to get enough sleep to function? I hope not. Sleeping at night and waking in the mornings gives me quiet time to get things done. I don’t want to lose that.

My more productive mornings

Yes, it’s quiet during the middle of the night while everyone is asleep. I would have to lie in bed all night and all day trying to get enough sleep to function. I couldn’t stay out of bed during the night to work. If I did I wouldn’t get enough sleep.

Despite the nights being my waking hours for several years, I am not productive at night. I find I can get much more done in the mornings. It’s odd because I have never been a morning person, but that is my most productive time.

Changing sleep schedule causes me concern

I woke up at 6:57 AM and I am being pulled back to sleeping later. I don’t want that. Insomnia, please let me keep my mornings.

Have you dealt with drastic changes in your sleep schedule? How did it affect you? I would love to hear about your experience with shifting sleep schedules.
