How do i get rid of trouble initiating sleep

Consider this scenario, You come home from work, all tired, and put some water to boil on the stove and sit on your sofa with your eyes closed. And you are on the verge of initiating/falling asleep, suddenly you remember the gas was on and your brain sends those impulses and gets aroused from the half-sleep state for you to go switch it off. This hypothetical scenario kind of sudden unexplained arousal happens to me while on the boundary of sleeping/being awake without any explanation or underlying cause, exactly while trying to initiate sleep. Hence I have to rely on meds. Can anyone help me with this, I have had this issue since 2015.

  1. thanks, Allison, for sharing this article. I read it but I feel i should be getting some medical support for the automatic arousal since i experience it every single time I try to sleep on the flip side i also get a reflexive cough that too prevents me from initiating sleep. Feels like there is this jargon preventing my sleep

    1. Hi , unfortunately, we aren't able to provide medical support here, but please keep us in the loop regarding the arousal and reflexive cough once you're able to get answers from a healthcare professional. I think others will relate to and benefit from your experience. - Allison (Team Member)

  2. Hi , thank you for sharing! I'm sure it hasn't been easy dealing with that. You may find this article on hyperarousal really interesting: https://insomnia.sleep-disorders.net/living/hyperarousal. Let us know if you have any additional questions! Best, Allison (Team Member)
