If you have problems sleeping you might want to learn about hand self-shiatsu (HSS) on this new website: https://cbotlabs.wixsite.com/handselfshiatsu. A University of Alberta research team tested HSS to improve sleep in veterans and family members, adults and young people with chronic pain, and young athletes after a concussion. Results from these studies were promising to improve falling sleep and staying asleep.
Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy that uses comfortable pressure to set points on the body and has been shown to be helpful for a number of health issues. HSS is an easy to learn, no-cost self-care tool that may provide some relief from sleep problems.
Thanks to funding from Veterans Affairs Canada the website with a video, a handout and an app for your phone is freely available. If you have trouble sleeping, these resources might help you get a better nights’ sleep.
