Hyperarousal with insomnia

Does anyone have hyper arousal. Not form ptsd. Connected only with insomnia. I will have less sleep/more awake as an example. This is when zero tiredness happens. Even after days awake. Even if my body is falling apart. Lately I have felt some tired feelings. Not sleepy. Not sure what triggers the hyper arousal now. When this started for me --it was due to a adverse reaction I had to trying to restart zoloft for two weeks. Two years ago. Hyper arousal is Not a sexual term. Has to do with being alert. Thank you.

  1. I still struggle with this sometimes when I go for long periods without sleep! I feel it is a combination of my exhaustion and anxiety. My exhaustion makes my anxiety feel SO much worse what recommended is the same advice that I would suggest. Good luck to you!

    1. Hi Tina. I'm sorry you're struggling. Hyperarousal in insomnia is extremely common - I had it too and I think most people with insomnia probably do to one degree or another. It can be conditioned to be associated with the bed (ie laying in bed anxious about sleep) but not always. In my more professional experience, hyperarousal is 'fed' by worrying about sleep. CBTi and Mindfulness helped me and help a lot of people. I hope you find a way forward through this - what are you doing now to help?

      1. I certainly can relate. I wrote a whole article about it!
