Insomnia Frustrations

What is the biggest challenge or frustration around your insomnia? Share below!

  1. I did consult with a sleep specialist and had a sleep study. Turns out I have sleep apnea which was disturbing my sleep. BIPAP now and doing better.

    1. Those machines as not fun to adjust to, but what a difference they can make, . My husband is a new person since he started using a CPAP machine. I am glad to hear you got a diagnosis and treatment and that the BIPAP is helping. Thinking of you. Lori (Team Member)

  2. I have metastatic breast cancer, i.e. stage 4, with metastases to the right lung. Lack of sleep might be a side effect of the meds. My oncologist, as a response to my sleep mention, lectured me on not taking sleeping pills. I felt berated and misunderstood. I've read so much literature about the subject. I have some ideas what I can do, but really resent my doctor for not ever extending the discussion to see what possibilites I have. I feel shut down.

    1. How horrible, . Stage 4 breast cancer is difficult enough without a verbal beating from your doctor over sleeping pills. I would suggest you switch doctors, but I know that is hard in the middle of treatment. Here is an article from our sister community, AdvancedBreastCancer.net, about breast cancer and sleep disturbances that you might find interesting: https://advancedbreastcancer.net/living/poor-sleep. I hope this helps and that you are able to get the sleep you need to kick this cancer once and for all. Sending loads of gentle hugs your way. - Lori (Team Member)

    2. Thank you for replying and the references. I checked them out. I continue to investigate my options.

  3. I can't function

    1. To me, the most infuriating thing about insomnia is just the very fact that my body needs sleep, and yet absolutely refuses to do so when I give it a chance to.
