Tips on how to sleep, any good meds out there???

Hi
I've had problems sleeping for the last few years, I've retired early because of it, nothing worse than feeling absolutely shattered at 4 in the morning after tossing and turning constantly since you went to bed, usually 9.30ish for me. Any good tips meds, things to do or not to do, any tablets out there to target the receptors in you're brain, to try n get them to calm down, or anything along those lines, it's getting worser not better, n I'm getting scared, and advice warmly welcomed, and kind regards to all.

  1. Hello Kenny and thank you so much for your question and for being part of our community.

Everyone finds a different way forward with improving their sleep but I will share what helped me and what helps my other clients and that is sleep therapy. One reason people's sleep worsens is specifically the fear of not sleeping. We can't sleep well if a tiger is chasing us - if there's some threat present. If we get scared of not sleeping, that is like the tiger chasing us - and it makes it harder to sleep - and voila we get stuck in a vicious circle.

Behavioural sleep medicine approaches like CBTI and ACTI are designed to target this dynamic and there is a lot of evidence to support their use. You can find lots of articles here on this topic but here are a couple:
