Do you deal with nap guilt?

"As someone who has lived with insomnia for quite some time, I'm intimately familiar with the frustration that is needing a nap. Now, this isn't an elective decision to rest, it's one of those things where your body tells you it cannot and will not push forward without taking some type of break to refuel." - Amanda Osowski, Health Leader

Does your insomnia require that you take naps? Do those naps ever make you feel guilty?

  1. I've had this for decades. I'm 55 now and it started when I was a teenager. Big guilt, since I've always thought I was doing something wrong. It's currently standing in my way of finding a solid job, as I've worked for myself for decades as well. It seems this is the end of my career.

Sleep doctors are big future delays in making appointments and the sleep study I had 5 years ago took forever then told me "you snore". Brilliance. The lack of professionalism on some doctors amazes me, but it's always at my cost.

So now I'm chasing it again and I have a 1.5 month wait for an assessment. Not like I can look for a job. Looks like I'm losing my house and moving into an apartment with no future. I have absolutely no clue what I'm going to do with my life.

This stuff interrupts every single day of my life. I can't stand it.

    1. I take a nap every day, about 30 min, otherwise I'll nap in the afternoon, especially if I didn't get good sleep data from my BP Doctor smartwatch the night before, I'll take a longer nap. I don't feel guilty.

      1. I am thrilled you can nap without feeling guilty. You are doing what you need to do to be healthy. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

      2. Yes you should not feel guilty for needing to nap, I think you have a great game plan for coping through the day. I struggle with a short nap, I must be honest, I wake up quite grumpy, over an hour and a half and I am usually ok. wishing you a happy and good sleep tonight.

    2. Every single day.

      1. I hear you on this. How are you managing at the moment?

have you been able to get any rest lately? Are you on any treatment to help alleviate the insomnia a bit

    3. Yes all of the time but I get so tired all of the time that I need to take a nap

      1. Hi . Clearly, your body needs a nap. I hope you eventually reach a point where you can accept it as something you need and shrug off the guilt. Are those closest to you supportive? Gentle hugs. - Lori (Team Member)

      2. I hear what you are saying, it is very frustrating to need to sleep all the time. It can feel like it hinders the day. it is important to take the rest when a person needs it. Even though it is frustrating.
