Experiencing Weird Sleep Patterns

For years, I've struggled with poor sleep quality despite having no trouble falling asleep. My typical routine involves going to bed around 11 PM - 12 AM and waking up at 5 AM. Between 5 AM and 7 AM, I often find myself tossing and turning or reading to pass the time.
Paradoxically, I tend to fall into a deep sleep around 7 AM, only to be forced awake by work commitments between 8:30 AM and 9 AM. This leaves me feeling as though I've barely slept at all. My smartwatch consistently reports less than two hours of deep sleep per night.
I've attempted to address this issue by getting up at 6 AM, but I invariably feel extremely drowsy again after 7 AM. I maintain a regular exercise routine of 3-4 times per week and have reduced my screen time in the hours leading up to bedtime.
At this point, I'm at a loss for how to improve my sleep. What steps can I take to diagnose and resolve this persistent sleep issue?

  1. Hi . You must be awfully frustrated. Have you talked with your doctor about your sleep issues? Here is an article about treatments: https://insomnia.sleep-disorders.net/treatment. Many people have great success with congnitive behavioral therapy - insomnia (CBT-I). Here is an article specifically about CBT-I that might interest you: https://insomnia.sleep-disorders.net/cbt. I hope this helps and that you are soon able to get a solid night's sleep on a regular basis. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
