Panic in sleep

Hi. I've had this panic disorder for a while now. It always happens just at the onset of sleep around 11.15pm. then I found that if I get up and return to bed an hour later, I go to sleep quickly. All a bit of a mystery. Any input greatly appreciated.. cheers tom..

  1. Hi April . Thanks very much for your reply. I've changed my routine by going to bed at 10.15pm instead of 11pm. And I sleep further over on the bed. Don't know why but I haven't been experiencing panic attacks for the past 4 nights. I'm still waking up at times(I'm an insulin dependent diabetic) but no panic attacks. That is a big relief . Cheers Kevin...in Ireland..

    1. That's great news! I am so glad you have been able to get some rest! I hope it continues for you!

  2. I had something similar happen to me this summer. My anxiety seemed to ramp up at bedtime. My heart would pound, and I felt like I was losing my breath. Eventually, I would fall asleep but not before I worried myself half to death. I wish I had an answer for you. I know getting up and then going back to bed an hour later is an inconvenience, but if it works, I think I would keep trying it. Have you tried just waiting another hour before you try to go to bed for the first time? I wonder if that would help.

Keeping you in my thoughts and hoping you get some well-deserved rest.
