Parenting a child with insomnia

How do you help your child or teen/young adult who is experiencing insomnia? Have you sought medical intervention? Was it useful?

  1. My son has Autism and ADHA so his Pediatrician prescribed low dose melatonin. We also limit TV before bed. He is allowed to read for 45 minutes in bed before lights out and that helps him relax since he loves to read. Also, we do not keep any type of caffeine in the home. I would definitely talk to their doctor to make sure there are no underlying medical conditions going on! Sleep at that age is so important for development.
