Paying Off Sleep Debt

Hello All! I have been dealing with a broken CPAP machine for several months and poor sleep hygiene. I am on a new CPAP for the last 45 days and about 2 weeks ago, worked on my sleep hygiene. The last 3 nights, I have gotten over 7 hours of sleep (actually need 😎 and slept through the entire night 3 night's in a row.

My issue is that I have been dealing with debilitating fatigue for months and it has gotten worse after new CPAP. My CPAP numbers are great, which is why I am now focusing on my sleep hygiene. I have bad headaches and am yawning all day and even find it very difficult to drive and think.

My question is, how long can one expect to start feeling somewhat normal after finally getting to bed on time with total hours slept are 7 hours plus?

Thank you!

  1. That sounds like a great idea, I would really struggle to sleep in a center. Good luck on the upcoming appointments, Keep me posted, I will check in with you more often. I am excited for your journey.

    1. Hi . My husband felt great for a few years after he first got his CPAP machine. It did wonders for his fatigue. But then, over a course of several months, he began falling asleep during the day again and having trouble staying awake past dinner. Turns out, he was super low on Vitamin D despite being outdoors in the sun for much of the day. His skin just doesn't produce. After two days on Vitamin D, he was himself again. There are so many factors that can contribute to fatigue and many, like Vitamin D deficiencies, can be ruled out with simple blood test. It might be a good idea to ask your doctor to run some tests to make sure you are not looking in the wrong direction for the cause. Wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)

      1. Thanks for the update. I am glad your doctor is taking your fatigue seriously and running a few tests. I hope the change in sleep patterns helps. Warmly, Lori (Team Member)

      2. Absolutely and thank you kindly, I sure hope so too. Take care!

    2. This is such an interesting question, and I do hope that someone will soon chime in with how it worked for them. Personally I have not used a CPAP machine, but I have heard great things, and I am so glad that you are getting some sleep.

Fatigue can be so challenging to deal with, and this is something that I deal with on the regular too. Hopefully, after a few weeks of regular sleep, you will see some improvement in the fatigue. I do hope so.

      1. The sand man and I have a date, and boy I hope he shows. I can only do so many night with very broken sleep. Thank you for caring.

I want to tell you how impressed I am with how comprehensively you are doing these appointments. The doctors must think you are a model patient.

A comprehensive sleep test sounds like such a great idea. How do you feel about sleeping at a sleep center?

      2. Absolutely! I hope he shows up too!! Not fun being tired during the day 🙁

Well thank you. I've always been this way, and I don't mind doing the work/research. Yes, I have sensed the doctors have appreciated my thoroughness and understanding myself well. Thank you again 😀

I have no issues with going to a sleep center. I have done a few sleep apnea tests for getting my CPAP, so I'm very willing to do. I may just go ahead and schedule it to get it in the books, and should I not find issues from these other appointments, I can go ahead and do that sleep test.

Take care and have a good night tonight!
