Sleeping pills

I've been taking a sleeping pill once every two weeks to help me get a better night's sleep, and they (Clonazepam or Seroquel) help greatly. I am thinking of moving to taking one once or twice a week, but have a fear that they might lose their effectiveness if taken more often. Can anyone help with a view on this shaped by their own experience?
Fingers crossed.

  1. I have been an insomniac most of my adult life. I have tried relaxation, medication and nothing works, The more sleep medication I take, the more I need. With my moderate emphysema , It is even more difficult to sleep as I have pain and pressure and shortness of breath during the night also. My oxygen level is ok, but the symptoms are always there.

    1. Hi . The emphysema must complicate things. I wish you could find something that helps. Have you ever tried Cognitive Behavior Therapy - Insomnia (CBTI)? I know you have tried everything, including relaxation, but maybe there is something in the therapy that can at least improve your sleep by a bit. Here is an article about it that might interest you: https://insomnia.sleep-disorders.net/cbt. Warm wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. Have you tried? I hope you were able to sleep without medication. My first time trying doxepin 3 weeks ago. It worked the first night and then I skipped the next day and took it the following night and it no longer worked for me. But then doxepin might be different because I read online for this particular one, I cannot just stop immediately. The doctor then switched me to Ambien.

    1. Hi . That is a legitimate concern and a good question. I hope you get some responses from others who take it. Your best bet would be to ask your doctor or pharmacist. Pharmacists can be great resources. They often know more about medications and their effects than doctors. I wouldn't think taking it twice a week would have any impact on effectiveness, but that would just be a guess on my part. I am glad it is working for you and I hope you get answers. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
