Not insomnia.

I do not have insomnia. I have sleep delay syndrome, Circadian rhythm disorder, Non 24. What I have is not treatable with light therapy as is S A D.( seasonal affective disorder, labeled winter blues by the doctor who studied me at N I H. Two different things. One treatable, one not. One life-changing , one not. One neurological, one not. Even many doctors know nothing about sleep delay, once called phase lag. Google or Wikipedia and there is a lot of information. Once, it was considered a mental illness. Now, it is a legal disability if it has been diagnosed by a sleep specialist or a psychiatrist. Please check with your doctor, call social services, call your insurance, call a medical school. Call anyone with knowledge. Don't go to the few-hours-sleep-study- practices that exist mainly to call it sleep apnea and sell machines.(Grammarly wants me to put a "to" in front of sleep. Wow, who can you trust?) Good luck to all. Sweet dreams whenever you do sleep.

  1. Thank you for replying. I appreciate all of you who advise and listen to those of us with sleep disorders. Anything we learn is beneficial. There is so much misinformation by uninformed people who think they are helping. Things may be posted in good faith, but are incorrect, misleading and can be harmful.

    1. I am so sorry you are dealing with this. Your plate is just more than full. You really bring up a great point about finding a reputable doctor and one who is well-versed in sleep disorders. You are so right--everything isn't apnea. We appreciate you sharing your experience with the community.

I am sending you lots of hugs and positive thoughts for peaceful rest! April, Insomnia.Sleep-Disorders.net, Moderator
