No sleep for 3 nights… scared

Hi, I have not slept a wink for 3 nights & I’m so exhausted & scared. I had my first bout of insomnia a couple of years ago & read about someone getting hallucinations & going to the physc ward. It terrified me, I managed to sleep last time after 2 days but this time I’m at a loss & terrified, so scared if I can’t sleep what might happen 😞😢 cant shut my mind off about it all. Desperate for sleep (have underlying heart issue & long covid too) so this lack of sleep is so tough. Do you think I will be ok?

  1. Good Evening! in a recent study insomnia was observed in those who passed covid. Talk to your doctor about getting some tests done. I had the flu 3 months ago and because I am generally anxious, I was quite stressed. When the flu symptoms passed I started having trouble sleeping. I fall asleep but wake up every hour. The doctor says it's probably from the flu. I thought it was anxiety, I don't know. He gave me a low dose anti-depressant for sleep. It didn't help much, it just increased my sleep time a bit. Try taking magnesium 500mg and see if you see an improvement.

    1. Hi . Welcome to the community. I am glad you found us. Have you called your doctor to ask for help? Sometimes, anxiety over an inability to sleep can make insomnia worse. If that is what is happening to you, you might benefit from a few nights of prescription sleep medicine to get you back on track. However, your choices might be limited with your heart issues and long covid. Here is an article about some alternative therapies that might also help: https://insomnia.sleep-disorders.net/home-remedies. Do you have any idea what triggered this episode? Do you often suffer from anxiety? You will likely be okay, but you probably shouldn't drive or operate any machinery until you finally get some sleep. Please give your doctor a call or stop by an urgent care. Hopefully, you can get a good night's sleep tonight. Let me know how you make out if you don't mind. I will be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
